Wow, that looks great, thanks Phyl. Im sure it must have bee mentioned while at high school but cant remember. Im going to do some searching now and have a look round. I did a search on Timaru and saw some really nice images, couldnt imagine it snowing there.

Roy, does it snow in Taz?

Yes it does snow here Len but not often down to sea level.

We are overlooked by mount Wellington which has snow on top quite often during the year , even in mid summer.

We also have some very basic ski slopes in Mount Field and Ben Lomond National Parks but the season is very short and some years non existent.

Tasmania is more renowned for its widerness hiking , scenery and wild rivers.

Tasmania sounds a neat place . I didn't go there at all in the time we lived in Australia. What is it like in the winter time Question I must say though, that when we first arrived in Australia in October 1954 ,I really felt the heat and slept with only a sheet over us ,however after a few years it was a different story and in the winter an electric blanket was making an appearance. Winter in Tasmania is not that bad Phyl. It can get just below freezing overnite but the coldest during the day is about 7 or 8 degrees and the sun does make an appearance most days so it doesnt seem to get it to your bones.

I have to say; we havent had many days this year about half a dozen where the temperatures has fallen below 0. Todays temperature is around 8c.

Roll on summer.
