Hi Len,
the two photos above are before and after houses. The original Manager's house and after the hostel was rebuilt the new Manager's house.
Of interest is the gum tree in front . It survived all the rebuilding upheaval. sun
Gum trees are just (((soo))) nice. Australia is surely a beautiful country. Smile

This photo is taken when the houses at the hostel were being demolished.
I am standing in my front yard.and the house next door has gone. On the right hand side in the background is Heathcote Road Hostel . It was by that time empty.

Well, I can only say that the new house was an improvement, although it took me about 12 months to adjust to a house with straight walls. There was something comforting for me in those curved ones that became the ceiling.
When I left the hostel, there were no fences apart from the ones around the managers huts, and that had certainly changed by 1968.
There was a gum tree just inside the front fence of the old house that I used to climb and sit up in the branches for ages, so that certainly has some memories for me.
Someone has posted pics of the hostel site in 2009. I feel like going back and looking for relics

Kent

The tree is still there - you can look at it by going to

or

My brothers and i also spent time in that tree (whenever my mum was not around to freak out about it)

You can also see the site on Wikimapia here:- http://wikimapia.org/15175809/East-Hills-Hostel-Nissan-Hut-concrete-pads-before-1966
Wikimapia also has a "history" function. ie you can look back at older photos and see differenced. I have no connection to this site whatsoever. I just like it. Richard
