My parents tell me that they were part of a group on the Hostel that organized days out at weekends.
They would collect a couple of Dollars each week from everyone taking part and when theyd collected enough the group/ families would hire a coach and visit various places. Places like, Warragamba Dam, Cataract Dam and other sea side resorts, Seven mile beach and Thirroul etc.

I remember most of these places. Seven mile beach we went canoeing. Thirroul had an 0pen air sea water swimming pool and I seem to remember not being very keen on using that pool because the water always seemed cold and I was a bit worried about the waves that kept crashing over the wall into the pool but the barbeques were always good.

Anyone remember these outing? If so, where else did the group visit?

We went in a group a couple of times to Sydney Stadium to see overseas Pop groups and artists as well as local bands especially The Easybeats. It was all good fun.

In the main I was too old for organised stuff prefering to go down to Sydney on the weekend. One Easter we went camping to National park and hooked up with a Mormon girls schools long weekend but thats another story lol.

I was told today by my parents that they used to sell raffle tickets to raise money for the outings. My mothers friend 'Rita Woodhouse' also played a big part in raising the moneys.

I've found these old photos taken at Cataract Dam back in 1968-69 ish
The photos below are of me with my mother Mary and Sister Elaine. hehe
The other two photos are of the same location.
Sorry about the photo quality, but they are old.

I remember the outings well, we went on a Thirroul trip, it was a very cold and over cast day. I think the weather is why i remember it so well.
I also remember the trip to Seven Mile Beach because i didnt go on it and felt left out afterwards. There were other trips which i dont remember so well, one was in the hills where we swam in a river with a "tarzan" swing over it. We also ate lots of water melon on this trip.
Another i remember was to the beach near where Lake Illawarra met the sea, I remember trucks selling large blocks of ice, on the beach, it was a very hot day.

Tony

The river with the rope swing over it sounds like Royal National Park.

The part where lake Illawarra meets the ocean is called the Lake Entrance at shell harbour.

Does anyone have any photos of these trips?

I remember these outings as well. Especially to the seven mile beach and Thirroul. It was indeed overcast and cloudy on the day of the outing to Thirroul. What I remember vividly from the Thirroul trip are the massive waves. I haven't seen waves that big since.
