I was a bit earlier 1962/63 we knew it as Maribrynong hostel.

Hi Adrian
I must admit i don't remember the library but i do remember the shops,i was always too busy playing sports and exploring. It was a whole new wonderful world for me, as a 13year old just out from England i couldn't get enough of the outdoors. What did stick in my mind was the canteen, i had never encountered anything like it before all that food (i thought for free!) We were treated very well for the first few months and then we couldn't wait to get out.
