My father, Alex Szkutenko (later changed to Skutenko)and my mother, Pamela Little met at Villawood hostel in the early 1950s. My mother's father, Ron Little, worked as a catering manager at CHL. My father also worked as a manager for CHL for many years. They had five children, Nicholas, Sandra, Michael (me), Karen and David. We were at many hostels over four states. I am looking for information about my father (I don't care whether it is positive or negative) he started as a gardner and eventually became a manager, he was from the Ukraine and spoke several languages.

Would love to hear from anyone who remembers the Skutenkos or the Littles. Thanks for your help.

Hi Micheal,
I remember your Dad and also Ron Little.My late husband Tony Hobbs was a Manager in CHL for many years.I have a couple of photos here of your Dad when we were at a 'Do' at Burward Hostel.I will try to look them out. Think there may be something in the Company Tidings I have.

Hi Phyl,
Thanks for getting back to me. I'm very interested to hear your honest opinion about what sort of men they were. What their work colleges thought of them. I know my father had his problems but I always thought he was a good man. I am also keen to put together a time line of which hostels he worked at and when he was at each hostel. Do you know anyone that might be able to help? This information may be in the collection of the Company Tidings. Do you know of any libraries that may have a collection I might be able to look through?

Hi Micheal,
Here are few dates showing the hostels your Dad was in.

Oct. 1971: Relieving Manager in N.S.W.
1972: Relieving Manager N.S.W.
1973: House Manager ,East Hills Hostel, N.S.W.
1974:February: Manager in Charge, Pennington Hostel,South Australia.
August 1977:Manager in Charge ,Midway Hostel, Victoria.
April 1979: Manager in Charge, Wacol Hostel, Queensland.
February 1981:Manager in Charge,Wacol Hostel, Queensland
February 1982: Manager in Charge ,Wacol Hostel, Queensland.
Also found:
February 1981 : in ACT. N. Skutenko in Brassey House,Catering Manager I think.
Also found several items of interest in the Tidings about your family.Will need to scan those into the computer.
Anyway hope this helps a bit.

I really appreciate your effort in supplying this information. It certainly has helped. I would be very interested to see any photo's and read any of the items of interest in the Company Tidings. Is it possible that I could send you my email address for you to be able to email me any of the scanned items or can this be done through the forum some way? This is my first forum and I am not sure of the proper procedure regarding personal contact details within the forum.

The photos at Burward were actually of another manager, Stan Svilans,don't know where he is these days.

I haven't found anything about Ron Little , just that I remember him but nothing about him.
We were in the Company from 1954 to 1973.

Worked with Alex And Nick and played cricket with David for Taringa Rovers when he was on holidays in Queensland I followed your Dad as manager at Wacol. I found this blog when I was looking for Nick's whereabouts.
