Hi there,

Yes I am a veteran of Heathcote Road Hostel! Not many of us left I fear. I was just a kid, arrived with my parents (Geoffrey & Mavis Toft) in August 1965 aboard the 'Fairstar'. Lived in hut 21c.

One memory is when Dad took me down to Williams Creek behind East Hills Hostel to sail my toy boat, a brand new Xmas gift at the end of 1966. Powered by batteries the damn thing took off to the other side of the creek where it got entangled in reeds. I recall I bawled my eyes out as, helplessly, I watched it disappear into the depths. Hey, just imagine, it might still be there at the bottom of the creek!
