I've just had a good look at the Altona hostel site, the new satellite street view and aerial view is crystal clear. You can see the old rec hall (the nissen hut and only surviving original building) and the brown brick units which replaced our old asbestos deathtraps in 1969. From this aerial view I am hoping to draw up a plan of the previous hostel buildings, relying on my own memory and other contributions. Maybe the Facebook page would be a good place to do this, or my own new forum at www.migrantweb.com.au if we can figure out how to upload photos there. |

If you find the corner of Kororoit Creek Road and Technopark Drive you're there. Technopark Drive is on a slight bend, where the front playground and shop used to be. The only surviving building is the rec hall in the middle, and the palm tree by the creek. You'll also see the tanks to the left. I'm working on reconstructing a plan of OUR hostel, using google maps, everyone's photos and my own photographic memory. Then we can all fine- tune it from what we remember. |

Hi Judith, just went to have a look at www.migrantweb.com.au but seems it's just "parked" with Crazy Domains. What's the go with it now? _________________ Resident of Altona Hostel, 1963-1965 |

Well to be honest I haven't posted anything much since this forum was returned to us, maybe I just have to "unpark it" somehow. It served us in an emergency, and i've taken it for 2 years with Crazy Domains, so it's not going anywhere. Would be good if others apart from you and me would use it. |

Don't let the spammers/ tossers get to you, hopefully
Len will sit up and take notice and remove them.....seeing we as Moderators can't?
Really love your wit and life story in Ireland and Aus series. Don't let the W*nkers get you down.
Cheers, BOB? |

Aw thanks Bob, they give me a laugh prior to tearing strips off 'em.
Memoirs will continue again soon. I fled the country for a few weeks on a music cruise, then went to a remote island in Tassie in the school holidays so I haven't been posting much. And next month I'm off again to visit #1 daughter in London, and the rellies in Ireland. But the next few installments are in my head, ready to go. |
