Hi All

My name is Roy Phillips and my family lived at East Hills Migrant camp in late 1953/54. I attended Hammondville Primary school in Grade 3 teacher Mr. Cleary [I think] We arrived on SS Chitral ex UK and initially went to Bonnegilla migrant camp then East Hills. My parents Norman and Florence. My father worked as an aviation mechanic at Bankstown and my mother had a job as a waitress in Sydney. I remember catching the bus to school and the terms Moffat and Whittles which I think referred to two areas of the Hostel. I can remember the canteen/shower blocks/the rver play areas and that my mother hated the place.I can only remember the Thorne family who may have returned to the UK. We left East Hills for SA in 1955 when my father got a job with AVROE at WRE in Salisbury as Woomera was being developed. A lot of water under the bridge I am now nearly 70 and retired my parents both passed very young. A great experience that must have tested my parents resolve. Would anybody remember us after such a long time?
