Hi everyone. I've just joined. I live in Williamstown and am exploring the history of the old Williamstown Racecourse. It went quiet for a while, but today a Rob Medlin called me, from Adelaide. He found my blog with my results so far. The summary is that his Dad used to run the Canteen at the old Racecourse from about 1950. He said it not only served the migrant hostel ("over the bridge") but some of the people from the hostel used to work with his Dad. Is that the "Altona Hostel" that this forum is about? If so, do you know what road it was on? Thanks! |

Certainly is, and we were located on Kororoit Creek Road, near the corner of Miller's Road. The ruins of the grandstand are still there. |
