Hi,
I have only just joined this board and hope to find out a little more about my "early Years"

I arrived in October 1969 (BOAC) and went straight to Maitland. How do I find out which hostel in Maitland? As seen from this forum, one was called Greta, while further research mentions one called "Brough House". I know it wasn't an old school or such.
How many hostels were there in Maitland?

Welcome Lou...you could search the National Archives for your name or the Hostel...I found:

Aliens Registration transfer of aliens X [ex] Greta [migrant hostel] plus daily advice slips from Scheyville [3cm; box 1]

If the item has not been opened, you can request that that be done and get hold of a copy or it might be electronically scanned for one and all to view.

Family History software like Ancestry.com.au can also be helpful
