Hello
We came out from England in 1960. I don't remember the name of the hostel we stayed at when we arrived in Sydney (was 6 months old at the time). East Hills rings some bells but I could be very wrong. My father got a job in CHL and worked in Nunawading, Midway, Fairymeadow, Norlane etc until his death in 1973. Do remember having lots of fun and meeting lots of people.
Thank you for a wonderful website that has stirred a lot of memories.
Regards

Hi Kim,
Great to read your contribution to the forum. What was your Dad's name? . I may have known him as we were in some of the hostels you mention . I am trying to think who died at the time you mention.
My husband worked for CHL too.
Anyway hope you post more of your memories. _________________ Kind regards,

Hi Phyl,
Thanks for replying so quickly. My father's name was George Boughton though often called Len Boughton. He was at Midway Hostel when he passed away. As a young child I also remember living at Preston Hostel, although I am not sure of the year, I think sometime between 1963 and 1966. We probably only stayed there for about a year and then moved on to Nunawading Hostel, I think it was. I remember at Preston Hostel there was a creek or river nearby, my brothers used to go there often. I remember when my father caught them down there when they were wagging school. I used to go to the kindergarten at Preston Hostel and remember a young boy who used to attend who was also the child of a manager, his name escapes me though.
Best Regards,

Hi Kim,
Thankyou,I remember your father well .He was a field officer in Victoria at the time of his death. I have a Company Tidings (February 1974)that has an article about your Dad. He was very well respected. There is a photo with the article. You may have it yourself. May I at this late stage say how sorry I am .For you to have lost your father when he was only 45yrs is a tragedy. My late husband Tony Hobbs would have known him better than I did. Tony ,too , was only 48yrs when he died only six years after leaving CHL. At the time you were in Victoria we were long gone .We were only there 16 months, from early 1955 to October 1956. We were at Nunawading, Marybrynong (later Midway) and Preston. At that time my father in law was also a Manager with CHL. He was ill at the time so we asked to be transferred back to N.S.W.We had 18 and a half years in the company. _________________ Kind regards,

Hi Kim,
Welcome, its great to have you here. Sorry for the delay in replying but I seam to have the knack of scaring new people off when I reply and I dont know why.
Its great that Phyl remembers your father and can give you some info.
Phyl, if you can scan that article about Kims Father and send it to me Ill add it to your post above.

Hi Len ,
I have scanned in the article and as it is a little sensitive being about Kim's father's death , I wpould like her blessing on putting it into the forum. If Kim is happy about it I will send it through.
Hope you will be happy with this Len. I sure you will as I have great respect for you. _________________ Kind regards,

No worries Phyl, that is the right way to go-about it. Sorry, I was jumping the gun a bit there.
Might be an idea to email it to kim first and let her have a look for herself. If kim wishes to keep it private then thats fine.

Hi Len and Phyl,
Have no problems with having my fathers death notice on the web site, there are a few other people in the photo who may be encouraged to add their news on this site. Phyl thank you for stopping to consider how that might feel. Len, people used to think that jumping the gun was my favourite past time so your not alone there.
Thanks
Kim. _________________ Love the idea of this website. Kim |

Thanks for that Phyl. I've made the changes to the image.
I know one of them must be Kim's father but can you tell us who's who. |
