I arrived at Bradfield Park Migrant Hostel about 1952 with my parents from Scotland. My father had four and sevenpence in his pocket, three children and a pregnant wife. Strange but I've done a search before for Bradfield Park and it's always drawn a blank. I was quite excited when I found this site. I'll keep viewing.

Hi Laura,

How long did you stay at Bradfield and what part of Scotland did you come from? Smile

Takes some courage to leave your homeland for another country.

Kim

Hi Kim,

I'm not sure how long we were at the hostel. I remember when my brother was born, my mother had shipped her pram across and it was a very large one with enormous wheels (a collector's item these days) and I was mortified walking around the streets with her because everyone stared at the pram. I think my brother was a toddler when we left. We are from Inverness. My father was born in Duthil, and my mother Alness. What took even more courage on my mother's part was my father was killed nine years after we arrived in Australia but mum never went back even though her father offered to pay for her and the kids to return. I'm not really sure why she didn't, perhaps she'd made a new life for herself.
