Hi all. My name is Steve and I lived at East Hills hostel with my family when we emigrated here from Scotland in 1970.
We lived at East Hills from April 1970 till November 1970.
I don't remember a great deal about the place...but I do remember some good times.

My older brother and I caught the bus every day to Hammondville Primary School.
We used to walk up a road to a small town a short distance away to catch the train to Liverpool.
We used to go fishing off a walk bridge into a small river.

We initially lived in a hut made from corrugated iron...we lived in number 13A. I remember that because mum was paranoid about living in number 13...but she thought we'd be OK because we were in 13A.
After a few months we moved to a brick unit (Luxury)...but I missed the hut.

The food hall was good...pretty loud at times, but I recall the food being OK.
Lining up every day for our allowance of fruit...oranges almost every day, but every now and then we'd get bananas...yummy!

I was 9 years old...but I remember the place fondly.

We moved to Whyalla in SA in November 1970 and I haven't been back to Sydney since then, but if i ever make a trip I'd love to go to East Hills just for a look to see what (if) anything remains.
