Hi there, decided today to look up the Hostel I used to live on and came across this site.
We emigrated to Australia in 1965, my parents, myself and my sister and 2 brothers.
We lived in Dundas Hostel on Bettington Road and wonder if anyone knows where I may find photos or information on this Hostel.
I remember it so well and we always stayed and lived around the area.
It would be good to hear from someone

If you have any photos of your families stay at Dundas Hostel and would like to share them with us then please email them to me and Ill upload them and put them on site. Your photo could/ will help to attract others whom may have been to Dundas. If you havnt, then no worries.

Len

HI Oldhamgirl,
You would have been at Dundas when my late husband was manager in charge. Smile
My children went to Oatlands school . Did you go there too?.
We lived in the house on the left as you entered the hostel. My eldest son also went to McQuarie Boys High .
Welcome and hope you have memories to share. I will post a photo of the Manager's house if you would like. Or I should say ,send to Len who will post it. Smile

Hi there how nice of you to respond. I also went to Oatlands school and my Mum was the cleaner there. I only spent one year there and then went to Macarthur Girls High. My best friend just lived across the road from the school. I know my Mum has photos of the hostel and I will ask her to dig them out and get them posted on here.

That would be super. would love to see the photos. Mine are mostly of the kids and friends and our wee Kangaroo and that sort of thing and also some staff though I have the photo of our house there.
How long were you living at Dundas.
Do you remember Nev. who was "Skip" And the staff there were so good to me. I loved them all. I cried when we were transferred. cry
Mr. Bowman was the headmaster of the school .

I cant remember what class I was in and I dont remember Skip.
I do remember Mr Bowman though and I think it was his class I was in, I only did the last year as I was nearly 11 when I got there, my Sister did a couple of years though.
Not sure how long we lived in the Hostel but we moved to a house on Dorahy Street after that. We were in Oz for 5 years and lived in 5 different places. Rydalmere, Telopea, Rosehill etc. always moving lol
I will try and dig some photos out, I know I have some somewhere.

It would be great if you could find some photos. Just email them to me and I'll stick them on.

I'll be away this weekend, going camping while the weathers turned good.

Hi Len,
Thanks for putting in the photos Len. The house was our second trip to Dundas and the other was just the outline on one side of our nissen house in 1966. We had two trips to Dundas, first Tony as assistant manager and then as manager in charge . Cool
The accommadation was partly nissen and partly long rows of flats for the residents. I loved Dundas The staff were wonderful to me and so were the residents I knew.
I remember a dear wee boy from Durham called David and every time I asked him something he would say "I don't know " in his delightful Durham accent. Sometimes I would ask him something just to hear him say it. I wonder where he is now. Smile
I have many memories of Dundas.
Smile
