Berkeley Hostel 1962
Phyl, Could you please give us a description as to who, what the occasion was and perhaps even a description as to whereabouts on the hostel did you snap the shots?
Im sure everyone would be interested.

Hi Len
Just a little about my photos you have put on the site.
No.1 . This photo was taken outside our house and Tony and I were just clowning around. I can't remember but I guess it would have been taken on a day off.
No. 2. The second photo was taken on my eldest son's 8th birthday . He had a little party with a couple of friends. Three of the children in the photo are Tony's and mine. The house in the background was the Catering Manager's. The managers's houses were on top of the hill. (Kept you fit trotting up and down )
No 3. The third photo was taken at the same birthday party. It is taken outside our house. Whereas the one of Tony and I was taken at the front of the house, the birthday photos were taken at the back. You cannot see our house but it was the same as the other two. In the background is the catering manager's house again. To the left of the photo is the manager in charge's house and further in the background is a resident flat. The photo was taken in February, so the weather was warm. _________________ Kind regards,
Phyl |

Hi Len.
Further to photo No. 1. The house on the right behind us is the front of the Manager in charges place and in the background to the left are residents flats again. The photo was taken in front of our house and you can just see my aviary . I love birds. _________________ Kind regards,

There are some photos of Berkeley and Unanderra on the Wollongong City Council's website:
www.illawarraimages.wollongong.nsw.gov.au/illaweb/scripts
Unanderra Hostel appears in two. The Fishermen's Co-op looks exactly the same now as it did then.
One photo of Berkeley shows the street plan very clearly. |
