Hi All,

My name is John and I was living at Berkeley Hostel from 61-64, my memoroes are of two hostels as my father was thew caretaker of the closed hostel. My memories are closed hostel, quarry, farmland and the second hostel that all my friends lived. My fathers name was James Sloan who eventually became a manager and was posted to Adelaide in 1965 to Finsbury (Pennington) hostel. I am gald to be apart of this group and I will go through my mothers old photo boxes as I am sure there are quite a few photographs that I can offer to the group.

Regards

John Sloan

Hi John, Welcome to our forums its great having you here.

I myself and our family never resided at Berkeley hostel as we were at Unanderra Hostel (1967-70) but we often attended the Berkeley hostel as I and my brother played soccer for the hostels soccer club Berkeley East Soccer Club. We also attended the Berkeley Judo Club which was held in the 'then empty' canteen of the partly remaining hostel. I never saw the two hostel sites only the one remaining one, and that one, was also in the process of being demolished (1968-1969 ish).

I have set up a forum specifically for the Berkeley Hostel so if you have any memories of any events etc that you feel others may remember then please feel free to create a topic in that forum because you may encourage others and I will also gratefully add any of your shared photos to that forum.

I dont think anyone has mention Pennington Hostel as yet but that doesnt matter because its been mentioned now and I will be so pleased to be able to add any of your Pennington Hostel photos to our Other Hostel forums.

Smile
