Hello,

My name is Floor. I live in The Netherlands. My aunt was the ship doctor in te year 1958, when a lot of people sailed with the J.O.B. at 18th octobor of 1958 (if i'm correct) she helped bring twins to the world. Because the baby's were deliverd to soon My aunt made a incubator (I hoop that I'v got the correct word for this). Does anyone know anything about that? I 've got a wooden bird with 2 baby's in a "blanket" made by one of the sailors. There are 2 names on it: Maria and Engelina. who can help me? or even better, knows who they are?

thanx for your help.

Hiya Floor, welcome to our forums and thank you for posting.

Good luck with your request because its a very interesting tale about the twins, hope it pays off for you.

Good luck.

Hello Floor.

I look after the websites of the Dutch Australian Cultural Centre and the Federation of Netherlands Societies. Both based in Sydney.

( I am of course, on the committees of both.)

Apart from that my own website has been a Dutch-Australian connection, since 1996.

I came to Australia on the J.v.O., in May, 1956. Friends of mine celebrated 50 years in Australia, three years ago, because they arrived in December, 1956, on the J.v.O..
I know them via Matraville Hostel ( and Maroubra Bay High School.)

Their mother was an Engeline. But that's obviously not relevant to your question.
If you like, I can ask your question on the other websites as well.

Met vriendelijke groeten, uit Sydney,

Joop Mul

Hi Stoor

The National Archives site allows you to search passenger lists for migrant arrivals, by year. It shows all family members, vessel or flight no., date of arrival. You can do partial name searches, so if you searched for Engelina say between 1957-59, you might see something familiar. I think searching on Maria would give you too many results.
I managed to find my own arrival details, so if you're interested I could give the links to the search menu

I maybe of not much help, I was 12 at the time, and arrived here in Aus on the very next ship after Johan v O. Our ship was the Waterman. I remember us picking up a lady in Perth (Fremantle) on our way through. She had spent a little time there with newborns. From there we went through to Melbourne, but being so young I took little notice of where the ship went from there and if they even got of there. Just wanted to put in my bit. Hope it helps
