The Moody Blues are my favourite band of all time- I've seen them twice and have all their albums.
There was some great Oz stuff in those days, with new bands hitting the charts by the week-
The Real Thing- Russell Morris
Lady Scorpio- The Strangers
No-one Really Loves a Clown- Robbie Snowden
Did you used to buy GO SET? |

Yes I did buy Go Set.I too have all the Moody blues stuff,Ijust bought a compilation CD with 5 discs called Time Traveller and it has all the best stuff they ever did from all their albums, including the stuff from Seventh Sojurn album which is my all time favourite.
My Husband was in a band in the sixties well he wasnt my husband then,he was just a guy I knew but we still reflect a lot about those times.
I must admit to being a big Smokie fan too I thought Chris Norman was just the best looking guy I had ever laid eyes on.
I went to see the Moody Blues when They came to Melbourne last and they were just fantastic, and we went to see War Of The Worlds last year at the Tennis Center and Justin Haywood was just great.
Yes there was some great Oz stuff around ,one you mentioned was the Town Criers one hit wonder with Everlasting love!
I loved Normie Rowe too
The Masters Apprentice
Ronnie Burns
Lyn Randell Choi Baby
Bev Harrell What am I doing Here with You
The list goes on really |

Would you believe Seventh Sojourn is also my favourite album of all time and I was also there that night at War of the Worlds. Missed the 2005 concert however, as we were in Sydney at the time. Very depressing. Isn't the Time Traveller set excellent- I bought it years ago and have played it to death.
We had "Nights in White Satin' played by the organist at our wedding.
The Town Criers had two more hits, LOVE ME AGAIN and LIVING IN A WORLD OF LOVE.
Yeah, Normie Rowe had some great songs, and I still have lots of old 45's from those days. |

They're probably worth a fortune now.
Some of those bands (or the remnants) are still playing around the traps in their old age, they come down to Geelong now and then.
LIES- The Knickerbockers
JUST ONE LOOK- The Hollies
MINNIE THE MOOCHER- The Cherokees
POLK SALAD ANNIE- Tony Joe White |

Just an after thought
I remember a show that used to be on called Komotion all the people on there were dancers miming to songs and a little guy used to be on as a regular who used to mime to" Yesterday man" and "Sweet Pea" and Denise Drysdale used to dance around him all the time ,she was very popular then and not a bad dancer too!! |

This too bizarre! You're the only other person I know who had Nights in White Satin at their wedding.
I was an organist at the church and used to play it each Sunday night as people were leaving (and lots of other stuff which you couldn't do nowadays due to copyright) but couldn't very well play it at my own wedding, so the other organist learned it specially.
Kommotion was great, another one of Ken Sparkes' gems. I didn't know Denise Drysdale was in it.
Was listening to some old fossils doing the dishes this morning:
98.6- Keith
What would I be- Val Doonican (my little bro used to call him Val Dunnycan)
Pamela Pamela- Wayne Fontana
Walk Away Renee- Four Tops

And Then there was the bloody fued with Judy
Its My Party
Judy's Turn To Cry ...Lesley Gore
I hated that Judy, loved it when Johnny went back to her, mind you I would have sent him on his way long ago for taking off with Judy in the first plac ( I do take my music seriousy)..I was devastated when Elvis shot Old Shep and I wanted them all to go back down the mines to find Big John
And I was listening to the radio in the car coming home from work and guess what was on.....The Rain,The Park & The Other Things I nearly stopped the car I was that gobsmacked, made me think of you straight away, and I have never met you !!! |

When we arrived at East Hills the song of the moment was 'Little Egypt' and even to this day on the rare occasion that I hear it I'm taken back to my introduction to the miserable tin hut.
And then we transferred to Dundas, and 'Paper Tiger' was the popular one, I have better memories of this, reminds me of the ferry ride from Circular Quay to Manly where we used to go to the beach on the weekend, seemed like everyone walked around carrying a transister radio back then. |

I have a very good quiz that I will try to post a link to,it is really addictive it shows pictures of groups and singers from the 60s right up until now,and you have to guess who it is,you type the name under the picture and press enter and it will tell you if you are correct or not I think there is about 250 on there I have about 170 at the moment but I am really struggling now. |

Well ...
I basically like everything that's got a good blues/blues-rock guitar in it.
The British stuff: Rolling Stones, Pretty Things, The Who, The Kinks and so forth. Savoy Brown Blues Band; Chicken Shack; Fleetwood Mac; Cream; Traffic; King Crimson. Eric Burdon. Them (Van Morrison);
I particularly remember the first time I heard Janis Joplin singing "Down On Me" on a small transistor radio in Cootamundra. Grateful Dead, Loving Spoonful, Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane; Mike Bloomfield ...
Creedence Clearwater Revival; Tony Joe White; Ry Cooder; Steppenwolf;
Australian stuff: Easybeats; Masters Apprentices; Flying Circus (Prepared in Peace); Twilights; Taman Shud; and the song "1914 Year of War" I can't remember who sang it but in the spirit of the times the song did appeal to me.
I also remember a concert I saw in Brisbane, I think in a tennis hall featuring Mc Kenna Mendelsohn Mainline (Canadian group, still one of my absolute favorites); Frijid Pink and opener the Coloured Balls, a Brisbane blues band (terrific!).
Jeff St John; Phil Jones & the Unknown Blues and a lot more. Oh, and not to forget Axiom.
But also Fairport Convention => Sandy Denny & Trevor Lucas - such a shame.
There was a sydney DJ, if i remember correctly on 2UE or 2UW who did a nice ad for Honda (something about a throbbing Honda) - I am sure a few will remember that one. In Brisbane I listened a lot to 4BC - good radio in Australia. |
