My family arrived on the SS Oronsay on 21st May 1960 and were sent to Cabramatta Hostel - we were in Hut 1C. There were 7 of us - Percy and Kath Cocking (mum and dad) and Dot, Kath, Joan, Derek and Valerie (me) Cocking. We left our married brother (Roy) in England (Liverpool) but he and his wife and 2 children followed us here 2 years later. This year marks 50 years in Australia and our family and decendents now number over 70 and is into the 5th generation. I am organising a family reunion on 22nd May and all of our remaining family will be attending (unfortunately we have lost mum and dad, a brother, sister, 2 sister-in-laws and a niece. I have been able to find a couple of photos of the hostel - thank you for this site. :) _________________ Val |
