Back in February 2004 I received an e-mail from a bloke called Mick who lived in Cringila back in 1954-59.
He told me, that in those days he was one of the many Cringila kids who would meet up with the Unanderra Hostel kids at Allen's Creek, west of the railway and over the bridge near Springhill Road.
Unanderra kids on northern side of creek and The Cringila kids on southern. They would attack each other and sink each others canoes, canoes which were made up of roofing iron, three pieces of timber and a lot of tar. Back then the Alan's creek was thick with bush 'bush on both banks'.
They also had fights with some of the Hostel kids and made friends with others 'typical kids really'.
I was just wondering, is there anyone else out there that once took part in these battles?
If so, then join-in and tell us who made the best canoes/ rafts. Was it the Cringila lot or the Hostel lot?
