Hello,
I found this site a while back but have only just got round to registering. My family emigrated in 1959 to Cabramatta hostel. my parents May & Charlie Lloyd and their 5 children Robert, Barbara, John, Joan (me) and Irene, we had 4 fantastic years there but unfortunately my Dad could not settle and we came back to UK, the rest of us did not want to come home we loved it.
It would be great if anyone remembers any of the Lloyd family, my Mum worked in the shop so was well known by all at that time. |

Hi Katherine, No that wasn't my Mum that would have been Margaret Kennedy who worked with her, my family were from Liverpool. Mum was asked to go in partnership with Mr Samiack (not sure if spelling is correct) a really nice polish man who owned the shops on a few of the hostels.
Thanks for the reply anyway as I would love to hear from anybody who remembers us all, we all played sports for the hostel, the boys playing football and my sister and I playing basketball. We have lots of photos but not sure how to get them on here with being new to the site, HELP anyone??

I didn't get to the hostel until 1965 and the shop was run by a fellow named Ransome, can't remember his last name.

Hi David,
When my parents decided to come back to UK, they offered the shop & post office to May Ransome who managed Easthills hostel shop at the time, so along with her husband they took it over, thats who you will remember.

Well that explains that then, only have vague memories of the ladies who worked in the shop but would have been after your mothers time.

Hi, Gosh that is right Mrs Kennedy. I could be wrong but did they the Kennedys go back to Scotland all of a sudden as people did in those days.
I also remember that one night the electricty went out and the Hostel was in complete darkness. The next day at school Cabramatta High we had to write about the experience and Fred Taylor wrote a funny short story about the Hostel Shop he said when the lights came on loads of stuff from the Hostel shop was missing especially the sweets on the counter. |

Hi Katherine,
The Kennedys had a house built in Bossley Park near Fairfield so moved off the hostel whilst we were still living there, we used to visit them quite often.
Is it you that was asking about the May brothers? As I am sure my eldest brother Robert was friends with one of them as the name rings a bell, I am just waiting to hear from him, he lives in Australia as he married an Australian girl and lives on the Central coast 2 hours north of Sydney,
I will let you know.
