Thank you Alan for sharing Bunnerong hostel photos 1970.I wondered what happened to the place. My family and I stayed in 10 block (south) for 2 years in 1961-1963.We heard it was one of the better hostels to stay in by people who transferred from other ones.Regards susie

Hi Susie, you and I may well have crossed paths, we stayed there from April 1960 until November 1961. We were in 10 block as well, numbers 1055/56 and I think it was south? Against the fence looking out in the direction of the park and Matraville. Did you stay in Australia or move back to UK? We went on to NZ because of a slump/ recession about the time.

Hi Bob,thanku for reply. My surname was Owen then,I was with my sister,Mum and Dad at 1016-1017s and yes sth was by the fence.I was 10 when I arrived, went to Matraville primary then on to Sydney Girls High before going back to Blighty. As a girl had no say in whether to stay or leave, which looking back was a bit sad really. My time spent there is full of mixed memories, but all in all a very rich and special time, lucky you got to go to NZ! Regards Susie

I too went to Matraville School in 1960 and South Sydney Boys in 1961.
Note your comments re no say in returning to UK...bit sad!
Yes I thank my now late parents for making the moves to stay in this area.
My wife and I are constantly back and forth to Australia and absolutely enjoy our time there and of course here.
Did come back to UK once in 1998. Which only served to confirm we were content with our lot here.
