Hello i have just found your forum my family arrived June 3 1961, on the fair sky. Dad Jack Mum Lucy my brother Michael me John Barker. We were sent to the East Hills Hostel. Our hut was down by the creek can not remember the number. I was 12 years on the 7 June so mum bought a sponge cake from the East Hills shops. On the 5 June my brother and I were picking up my parents packing cases from the Admin area when a young girl recognised me from school in England. Her name Margrete Goodridge, her family had emmigrated several mounths before us.We had a great time, some of the people we came with never stopped crying from the moment they arrived and had made up there mind to go HOME before giving things a chance. I had my first kiss up by the swings and boiler room. Dad has been gone a long while but will see if mum has any pics. Dad used fish in the creek, it wasnt very healthy in those days the effulant from sewage treatment used flow in and there was large floating bits of floating everything. |
