I'm not a migrant, but the migrant experience has always been a great interest to me since the early 1950s at Angaston in South Australia, where I grew up with dozens of migrant kids of a dozen different nationalities.
I have always had an ungrudging respect for families who left everything that was familiar to them, to journey halfway around the world and make a new start in a new country with few possessions and little more than the clothes on their backs.
This was my childhood, and as I get older I realise I have lived through a time unique in Australian history and that my kids and grandkids will never be lucky enough to see the likes of it again.
Recently this has come to a bit of a head as I attempt to write my memoirs and it brings back those memories, also those of a great mate who arrived here from Middlesbrough in 1957 who is unfortunately no longer with us.
I have been reading the stories and info on this site and hope to gain a deeper insight into your experiences.
Thank you all,
Spike. |

Hi Spike welcome to the forums.
I got your other email today with June's photos attached and I'll have a go at them tomorrow. Many thanks for your help. |

Thanks Len,
I'm only too pleased to help.
I don't exactly know what you have in mind for them, but if there's any way I can be of assistance, let me know. I'm fairly handy with computers and moderate a small local website, so I'm pretty familliar with most of this sort of stuff.
Cheers,
Spike.
