Hi everyone !
Anyone flew on BOAC 707 flights from London to Sydney in 1970 ?
I was only 14 at this time, and can't remember the dates of departure and arrival in Sydney. I only remember the route, Beirut, New Delhi, Sigapore Darwin and Sydney.
Regards,

I certainly remember my 707 flight from London in 1971 we also stopped in Zurich it was a memorable experience just for the fact it took over thirty hours to get to Sydney.
How long were you in Australia did you stay in a hostel?
Regards
John

It was a three days trip. Our first stop was London. Fog, flashy green peas and realized how bad was my english Smile
We spent two months in Bonegilla migrant centre, one in East hills and one in Endeavour hostel. We returned to france two years later cry

Hello Erick
I certainly remember flying to Australia in 1970 even if some of the facts are a little vague. My Father said the tickets were BOAC however we actually flew with Qantas. My vageness comes from the exact route (which is how I googled on to this site). The route was Bahrain, Singapore, Sydney although in my mind I think we stopped somewhere else, very hot and Humid, possibly Calcutta. I can't find any evidence of this though any thoughts greatly received.

Following on we flew from Sydney via Melbourne to Adelaide with TAA.
Fitting in with the forum we stayed and Pennington Hostel for about 6 months before our new house was ready in Salisbury, where I completed all my secondary education.

I went back to Adelaide in 2005 for a Holiday with my wife and saw that the hostel was no longer there but the school and memories were.

Memories

Regards

Ian

Our BOAC route from London in 1964 was TEL AVIV, TEHERAN, NEW DELHI, RANGOON, SINGAPORE, DARWIN, MELBOURNE. It took 31 hours.

We flew from Heathrow in 1966 on a Rolls Royce 707 from London to Zurich, then Delhi, then Bankok then Hong Kong then Darwin, then Sydney.
Our pilot was a famous WW2 fighter pilot, now flying commercial.
I was a Junior Jet Pilot and have the log book and badge to prove it!
What a thrill it was with the oh so different smells and foods. A plethora of worlds I was previously not aware of. Soaring through the clouds, exotic lands, unbearable humidity, colourful clothes, a myriad of people shapes and sizes.
No wonder my trip to Oz was so vivid and unforgettable.
Thank you so much for your post and reminding me of the times of adventure and awe.

Hi Karen, welcome to this forum.
As I understand your post here, are you saying that you came out twice as assisted migrants?
That surprises me and destroys a long held notion, that you only got one shot at being the 10 pom.
Please correct me if this is not necessarily so.
Regards and thanks, BOB. Question

Hi Bob

Yes that's correct we came out twice on the assisted scheme
I obtained the documentation from www.naa.gov.au the first time it cost 10 pound each for mum and dad children travelled free the second time it cost 75 pound for the family.

I am waiting to get the complete documentation as you have to be a paid member that will be on pay day next week.

We flew out here both times i am trying find the documentation for our return to England by ship however i am not having much luck with that.

If you would like to see the short type script I have I am happy to email it to you if you would like to give me your email address mine is [email protected]

I have since gotten photos of the aircraft we travelled on now just need to check the routes.

Regards
Karen
