Does anyone remember waiting out the front to be picked up by the school bus ? My dad got a job as a boilermaker somewhere nearby. Any idea of where this might have been ? I also remember the cafeteria and some shop / kiosk where I would buy Dad his " Park Drive " cigarettes. We also spent time fishing from the bridge that led to East Hills. Funnily enough I have great memories of this time .... through the eyes of a child no doubt. _________________ I would love to hear from anyone who was at the Heathcote Road Hostel between March 1970 and May 1970. I also remember 30 min schoolbus trips along winding and hilly roads. Anyone got any idea of where this school was ? |

Hi Jay
I was at Heathcote Rd, but at an earlier time, 1960 - 61. I'm pretty sure the school bus back then went to Liverpool, not that I speak from personal experience. I had been intended to go to Liverpool, but for some reason got switched to East Hills - and had to walk all the way.
However the road to Liverpool is fairly level and even, not a lot of bushland. So it sounds like by 1970 the bus was going towards Heathcote (the bus would have turned left into Heathcote Rd, if you can remember that detail). Menai, Lucas Heights, Woronora River, Heathcote, Engadine are all possibilities. I'm sure if you google them these schools have websites that might trigger a memory or two. Google maps might also be useful, and pick up other schools in the area.
Do you remember whether you dad went to work by road or rail? If by road, my guess would be somewhere in Liverpool or Milperra, or Holsworthy barracks. If by rail, then somewhere on the East Hills line - Panania, Revesby, Padstow, Riverwood. Again Google maps might help.
Hopefully someone who was there closer to your timeframe can be more specific.
Cheers
