Back in July 2005 I received an e-mail from Andrea Fernandes, Project Officer at the Migration Heritage Centre New South Wales.
She told me that they are currently developing an online project which will document the migration and settlement of ageing post-WW2 migrants in NSW. She also told me that they came across a photograph on my website (Unanderra Hostel Memories) which they would love to use as part of the project?s overall design. The photo in question was of Sonja Spaan with her home made doll pram. I was absolutely delighted by the request but as I do not own the photo I contacted Sonja and passed on the information, Sonja replied and said it was ok.
I then contacted Andrea and told her that I had been in touch with Sonja and basically it was ok to use the image on their site; I also gave Andrea, Sonja?s e-mail address in case they wished to verify the permission.
Well I received another e-mail today from Andrea;
Dear Len and Sonja
The redeveloped site is now live and Belongings features on the home and ?View Exhibitions? pages.
Although it has gone live, please note the site is operating under test conditions.
Thank you for supporting Belongings. We hope you enjoy the online exhibition and welcome your feedback.
Kind regards, Andrea
I have visited the Migration Heritage Centre?s site today and I must say they have done a brilliant job with the new look. I think the colour scheme is warm and easy on the eye, I found the text easy to read and I found navigating the site was also easy.
But best of all, check out Sonja?s photo in their banner. If you hover your mouse pointer over Sonja?s image it will give you a brief description of the image.
Just goes to show, add your photos to Unanderra Hostel Memories and you never know who will come across them one day.
The Link to Migration Heritage Centre is below.
Check it out.
