My little sister Debbie as just registered on this site. so hope to hear off her soon. she didn't live in Altona. She only came along once we came back to England. But all her family lived there. she enjoys to read all about our good old day's. by the way Debbie moved over to Australia. now married and three children. with a bit of luck our Doreen will join us too. _________________ Eileen Griffin |

Hi Everyone Linda Myers here have been reading the post's for about 6 weeks ,and have been having a good laugh, I don't remember much about life on the hostel BUT I must say that after reading all your post's it has certainly refreshed my memory. I keep in touch with Doreen Griffin and also Jean Hermit, Doreen has a great memory about hostel life but I must say that Jean's memory is worse than mine. I sent Jean the link a couple of weeks ago so no doubt she is probably coming back to read from time to time, and she rang me later that day after I sent the link to thank me said she was on 3 hours reading everything, she did ask me that if I ever went on to post to ask everyone if they remembered when the oil refinery next door caught on fire, she remembered that ok even if she doesn't remember anything else. _________________ Linda Myers Altona Hostel 1962 TO 1964 |

Hi everyone, hope you don,t mind me joining you as I was not even born when you were all in Altona , I have really enjoyed reading all the comments from everyone , and the lovely things being said about my mum and family. All the photos are great as well, there are still a few more photos to come from Doreen and Nora so i will put those on the web site soon. I remember hearing the name Olwyn Gillet and I know Olive Myers , Olive stayed with mum and I for a short time in 1987 when she was over in Wigan visiting her sister. Hi to Pat Heany, Pat came to my wedding with her mum Margaret when I married in Brisbane in 1989 , Nora is looking forward to having a look at the web site , hi back Carol, and a big hello to my sister Eileen |

Hi Debbie, glad you joined us. thanks for text message in middle of the night to tell me you have joined. Olive Myers was like one of our family, she always made herself at home. it was as if she belonged.
Hi Linda, Also glad you could join too. i remember when Carol told me about this site, i said to our Debbie i want to comment but too shy. had me share of comments now. I remember the night the refinery was on fire. Everyone running around like headless chickens, jumping in cars and driving off. runs home to the safety of my mum. expecting her to be waiting for all of us to be together and we too can get away. Only she was sat knitting and watching tv, could not see a problem. how cool was she? _________________ Eileen Griffin |

Hi Eileen, I am now confused...where did Debbie fit in as a sister...
And I also remember the fire at the oil tanks and I also just kept all the kids together...all five of them..and was determined to finish the ironing.
I remember going out and saw women with young kids in pushers running towards the creek...
Regards Olwen |

Hi Olwen, Debbie was born 20th Jan 1967. She went over to Australia for a holiday with mum and that's when she met her husband Michael. they married 1989. she lives not to far from Nora and Doreen. She looks more like our dad. _________________ Eileen Griffin |

Yeah, my mum and dad were exactly the same. Made sure they knew where all us kids were, then just had cups of tea and watched tv and waited. Of course, nothing eventuated, and it was all over with a whimper, but it was quite exciting going up to watch it. lol _________________ Resident of Altona Hostel, 1963-1965 |

I have checked to see when Anzac day falls next year and it is a Sunday.
Melbourne Storm play the New Zealand Warriors every year on Anzac day in Melbourne a game I wouldn't like to miss and I am sure Stormfour wouldn't want to miss it either. I don't suppose the Saturday could be considered?????? I would hate to miss this reunion. _________________ Linda Myers Altona Hostel 1962 TO 1964 |

This is serious now Guys,THE most important game apart from the grand final is being held on that day...so for the absolute perfect weekend, would you all agree to having the reunion on the Saturday prior to Anzac Day,if we can agree to that now,we still have heaps of time to get things organized and to get the message out there...OK EVERYBODY ??? _________________ Carol Myers Altona Hostel Dec 1962 - June 1964 |
