We had next door neighbours from Glasgow when we lived in Altona (Mary and Jimmy Broadley), they used to get newspapers sent over from Scotland and would pass them onto us. We got such a buzz out of them, although we weren't Scottish, it was the next best thing to having news from "home". One of the papers was The Govan Press. I used to love reading the funnies, especially The Broons and Setterday Sanny. Did anyone else get newspapers sent over? |

My mum's sisters used to send over The Wakefield Express for years and years and mum would send back The Australasion Post (magazine). I think it went on for a long time after anyone was even reading them. I do remember Andy Capp, comic strips, a neighbour would cut them out and send them to my dad. I don't know why I've remembered this after all these years! |

Hi All Thanks for the memory jog. I remember the Broons and being a young Scots lad I used to get ribbed at work by a bloke from the other side of the border when I made a mistake at work. He would say "I done a Broon on that" Makes me laugh at that as I sit and type this. Andy Capp and Flo where the best as he always got into trouble with Flo and she called a spade a spade and belted poor old Andy when he deserved it. lol and even when he did'nt. |

We had the Warrington Guardian sent over for about ten years. Being a teenager when we left UK I went straight for the wedding pages to see who had married who, I've still got most of the cut outs. Looking through the paper actually made me more homesick, but I'm still here. |
