Hi,
I found this forum when searching about Bunnerong Hostel. I have been researching my family tree. Walter Bruce Mcarthur is a distant cousin. From the electoral roll, I have learnt that he was the hostel manager in at least 1958. Does anyone have any recollections of what type of person he was? Does anyone have any idea how long he was at the hostel?
Any info, good or bad, would be much appreciated. _________________ Relative of Walter Bruce McArthur |

We arrived at that Hostel in March / April 1960. I was eleven years old at that time. Not sure if it was your relative who was the Manager at that time and of course memories fade but the Manager at that stage was a man probably 50/60 years old, rather dapper, probably ex army or airforce, quite conservative and no nonsense. Memory would have him resembling the actor Leslie Phillips. Hope this info maybe of some interest and help.

Thanks Bob,
My cousin would have been 40 at the time, but he was in the military, so maybe he had just not aged well! I am sending a few enquiries about incl to the randwick historical society - hoping they may be able to tell me how long he worked there! I would like to think of him as dapper :)

You may be right with perceived age, it's a hard when you are very young to work out age groups....anybody adult is seen as old lol.
Good luck with your search for information, if you find out more, it would be of interest to me if my memories line up. |
