On last night's TV News [21/2/09] was the new Arcadia enterng Sydney Harbour. A group of ten pound poms from the 1960's were invited on board. The new Arcadea is about four times a big as the original migrant ship which made the journey here so many times.

One couple met on board on their original journey, and the woman was wearing the cabin key on a chain around her neck as a momento.

I have sent a link with the Ten Pound Poms request to The Melbourne Age.

Yeah,we came out on the Oriana,which also is about 3 times the size as it was then,which seems hard to believe at it was humungus then,would love to make that trip again,but sadly nobody does that run any more,the last ship I went on was the Australis and that is now at the bottom of the Mediterranean!!

I came here in 1963 on the Fair Sky, which is sadly no more. I went back to the UK in 1975 by plane, but when I returned 12 months later, I wanted to do the voyage again and I too travelled on the Australis, in November 1976.

I have a coffee table book called "Ships that Passed" all about ships that plied the Australian waters over the years. All the migrant ships are in there, so it's a book I love to look at from time to time.

We went from London to Australia on the Strathnaver in 1958.
It was an amazing experience for me and my parents. We were waited on at meals, and the cabin steward tidied up after us, and we didn't have to do a thing but enjoy ourselves and visit exotic ports.
I think it's been the only time in my life when I felt rich.
